About

One of the first activities I have my students do at the beginning of each school year is create an “I AM” poem. So as I pondered how to finally create an about page here at Journey of Words, I decided to do just that.

I am a Christian.

I am a husband to the most caring and beautiful wife in the world (who has an incredible background in working with animals – bird show work for 10 years; worked with reintroduction of California Condors for 10 years; and now (no not working with animal except for me) is staying at home to care for our two children). Which leads to…

I am a father of two incredible children – a 15 year old son with special needs (Linear Sebaceous Nevus Syndrome and just found out he has what is referred to as Chromosome 7 deletion – missing 30 genes) BUT he is a great kid and will love you to death if you allow him into your heart. Second child is a very precocious and opinionated princess who is all of 3 1/2 who we adopted from Korea when she was 5 months old. She thinks she’s all that and is already bossing her brother around and, if I ever turn up missing, just check her little finger. It’s where I will be…all wrapped around the tiny little digit.

I am a poet and wannabe short story writer. Had one poem published many years ago…read it recently…it was a lousy poem.

I grew up in Southern California, spent a few years in New Hampshire, back to California, college in the mid-west, back to California, got married, moved to Georgia (about 30 miles NW of Atlanta) two years ago this month.

I am a teacher of nine and ten year old children. I have taught Kindergarten, Second, Fifth and now Fourth grades though am certified to teach English up through high school.

I have completed 50 pages of a novel that I’ve not looked at in four years but hope to finish by the end of 2010.

For now I will leave it at that. If you want to know anything else, leave a question in the comments section and I will (if it is appropriate) answer.

(hmmm….was just mulling over not having anything to write about but when I start looking at even this small sliver of my life it seems as though there is enough material for a lifetime)
