Forgetfulness – Billy Collins

I came across this video of former U.S. Poet Laureate, Billy Collins piece entitled Forgetfulness.

I have been spending time on YouTube viewing various animations of Collins’ work and am intrigues with the use of the medium of video in poetry. What are some of your thoughts on the use of video/animation and the like in addition to voice in representing poetry?

I like Billy Collins. We ran one of his videos at HCB once, in our Random Acts of Poetry column. It was mesmerizing.

Welcome, btw, to High Calling Blogs.

Anything that helps demystify poetry is a good thing in my book. And poetry really is a performance art–so in that sense “video” performance poetry is completely in line with the spirit of the form.

And I have to ask, what are you thinking of Culture Making? We have an interview with Andy Crouch going up on TheHighCalling.org this coming Sunday.
